WATCHING / PINE (Size X-Z)
This full-bodied, sculptural ring was hand-carved in Scots Pine bark and cast in fully recycled silver using the sand-casting method. Bold in form and rich in texture, it reflects a maximalist approach rooted in natural symbolism and intuitive process.
The piece draws inspiration from the lore of the Scots Pine—a native tree deeply connected to the Moray landscape, and personally significant within this body of work. In folklore, the Scots Pine is linked to inner vision:
~ intuition
~ imagination
~ self-awareness
~ insight
These themes guided the making of the piece, which unfolded through a highly experimental and responsive process. The ring shank was formed from rectangular wire, intentionally opposing the organic flow of the top section. This interplay—structure and wildness, order and intuition—speaks to a unity of opposites. The high-polish finish across the entire surface serves as a symbolic gesture toward clarity, reflection, and the deep listening required for insight.
The result is a one-of-a-kind talisman—an echo of the forest floor, carrying the spirit of the tree in both form and presence.
