ANEW / BIRCH (Size N-P)
A delicately constructed ring, hand-carved in Birch bark and cast into fully recycled silver using the sand-casting method, then divided, soldered, and selectively oxidised to reveal depth and contrast. The ring shank takes on a more structured, rectangular form—offering a quiet tension between containment and organic surface.
This piece draws from the lore of Birch, a native tree of Moray traditionally associated with renewal and purification:
~ Fresh Start
~ Healing
~ Release
~ Hope
These themes moved through the experimental making process, which unfolded intuitively and responsively at the bench. The cast Birch form was intentionally sawed in half and rejoined into a stronger, more grounded structure—a gesture toward parts theory and the integration of fragmentation often present in healing.
I think through making—each piece becoming a one-of-a-kind expression of the materials, the moment, and the myth.
