THE VEIL / ELM (Size X-Z)

£200.00

A rooted ring, hand-carved in Elm bark and cast into fully recycled silver using the sand-casting method. The shank evolved into a root-like form through an intuitive process of wrapping and soldering wire, with extended heat exposure allowing the structure to fuse organically. The result is a piece that feels unearthed—both deliberate and untamed.

This ring draws from the lore surrounding Elm, one of Moray’s native trees. In folklore, Elm is linked to the underworld and stands as a guardian between realms:

Divination
Life and Death
Sacred Protection
Doorways to the Otherworld

The root-like shank echoes the importance of staying grounded while navigating the unseen. The making process was highly experimental, guided by instinct and material response. I think through making—each decision unfolding at the bench—which is why every piece in this series is entirely one-of-a-kind.
